Meet Anscoflex II

At my internship this week, one of my jobs was to look into this thing called lomography and pick out a plastic film camera (along the lines of a Holga) for us to experiment with. Boy was that a fun job! You can browse lomography.com’s galleries according to camera, and I fell in love with the Lubitel 166. I loved this particular image taken with one – gorgeous colors. (That was only my personal obsession. We ended up ordering a Diana F+.)

So after educating myself all day about the world of plastic toy cameras – “toys” that are now used by everyone from photo-enthusiasts to professionals, it hit me that I had a camera sitting on my bedroom floor that looked an awful lot like the basic structure of the Lubitel.

Meet Anscoflex II. (See picture.) Manufactured in the 70s. Super nifty and adorable. You shoot from waist level and look down into the huge viewfinder, which uses a mirror to reflect the view that is in front of you. Apparently you can respool 120 film onto the original 620 spool and shoot with it! I’m super excited. I’ve been wanting to experiment with shooting medium format for awhile. I can’t wait! I’ve been cruising around the house looking through the viewfinder and pressing the shutter button and advancing the film for each shot I wish I could take. I’m so happy that I might actually be able to shoot with this little camera I bought at a flea market (for $10) a couple years ago.

All that vintage camera researching got me thinking about my Polaroids. So I wanted to share with you some of my favorites I’ve taken since Christmas with my beloved SX-70. (From left to right:)

1. My house. Delicate and full of trinkets.

2. Christmas morning.

3. For Maia Jade Long. Two of my favorite people + being adorable = favorite Polaroid.

4. My house. Pin cushion and sticky note paper crane (circa sixth grade).

5. Abandoned treasures Pt 1: wonderful photo expedition find.

6. Pt. 2, I found a picture of Jesus in that suitcase.

7. Key! I took home the key… but not the suitcase. Also found a sweet little cracked gravy boat in here with dainty flowers painted on the side.

8. Arnold Hall, glorious light.

9. Just plain gorgeous.

10. I met Garrett with the pretty green eyes, his sketchbook in hand, underneath this tree one random afternoon in Forsyth Park. I could not walk away without taking his picture.

11. Post-beach trip (towel is not mine).

12. Happy striped towel is breaking the rules. (Do you see?)

13. Bradley’s Lock & Key pt 1. Best of the year’s discoveries in Savannah.

14. Allison, being adorable and natural. I am so glad I captured this. (Taken on spring break.)

15. Bradley’s pt 2

16. Bradley’s pt 3 (I spy a steering wheel shaft. For sale.)

Oh sweet camera love. I am just itching to get out and take pictures, Polaroids, and photographs on explorations, adventures, and expeditions! With all kinds of people, props, and intentions. I love this stuff.
